🦴 Today is World Osteoporosis Day.
🦴 Today is World Osteoporosis Day.
World Osteoporosis Day began in the United Kingdom in 1996, and has been officially organized by the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) since 1998.
The day aims to raise awareness of bone health and the importance of prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis. It encourages practical steps such as adequate calcium and vitamin D intake, regular exercise, quitting smoking, and bone density testing.
At PROMEDIUS, we see osteoporotic fractures not as an individual’s disease, but as a challenge that affects families and society as a whole.
When one older adult is hospitalized with a fracture, the impact extends beyond pain and medical costs — to the time, emotional strain, and caregiving burden shared by their family. Together, these burdens accumulate into a broader public health and economic challenge.
To mark World Osteoporosis Day, PROMEDIUS continues its 'Save your mom' campaign for the second year, following 2024.
To every son and daughter reading this: You grew up under your mother’s protection. Now, it’s your turn to protect her.
👩🦳 Visit a nearby hospital with your mother and get a bone density test together. If a hospital visit is difficult, try completing IOF’s 1-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test with her instead.
