👔 Today is International Men’s Day.
International Men’s Day, observed on November 19, is a global awareness day dedicated to highlighting the health issues men and boys face, recognizing their contributions to society, and promoting gender equality.
One of the most overlooked aspects of men’s health is ‘Male Osteoporosis’. Although osteoporosis is often perceived as a women’s disease, research shows that approximately 25% of all osteoporotic fractures worldwide occur in men, and the 1-year mortality rate after hip fracture is higher in men (~27%) than in women (~20%).
Despite this, men have lower participation in bone density testing, are diagnosed later, and show lower awareness of fracture risk. National policies also tend to focus more on women’s osteoporosis, leaving men in a significant blind spot.
Male osteoporosis is a crucial part of our mission: Healthy Aging through AI. At PROMEDIUS, our AI analyzes chest X-ray images from adults aged 50 and older to help clinicians identify early osteoporosis risk signals.
On this International Men’s Day, we invite men everywhere to take a moment to reflect on your bone health. Your future strength begins with today’s awareness.
