This week’s interview features Gaeun Lee, a researcher who has just returned from a 9-month parental leave. Gaeun is the brilliant mind behind the ensemble AI model of PROS® CXR: OSTEO, which recently received regulatory approval. We caught up with her to see how she’s settling back in.

Q: It’s been two weeks since your return—how’s everything going?

A: I'm currently adjusting to the dual life of parenting and work. My first task upon returning was analyzing outcome data. I was involved in the initial development of the foundation model, so I needed to understand how the dataset has evolved during my leave. In addition to tracking performance, I’m also analyzing failure cases to improve the model further.

One big change is that I now follow a ‘forced miracle morning’ routine thanks to my baby. I start work early to stay efficient. As Promedius’ first employee to take parental leave, I want to set a strong example—showing it’s possible to manage both professional responsibilities and parenting.

It’s also quite emotional being back at the company I joined five years ago, when I followed Hyun-Jin Bae from our former research lab. Returning during cherry blossom season🌸 feels symbolic—it’s a fresh start, and I believe only bright days lie ahead for Promedius. Oh, and the new office is amazing! I especially love spending time in our ‘Little Forest’ lounge."

Ga-eun described Promedius as a “weed”—a plant that survives and thrives no matter how tough the environment. Her words capture our spirit perfectly.
